Bloomington police arrested two 13-year-old boys early Saturday after officers heard gunfire near the 1000 block of North Prairie Street.
Around 2:30 a.m., an officer saw a youth fire a shot into the air before several suspects ran from the scene. With assistance from Normal police and a McLean County deputy, two boys were caught, and a loaded handgun was recovered.
Both teens were taken to the McLean County Juvenile Detention Center and face preliminary charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, resisting police, and possession of a firearm without a FOID card.
No injuries or property damage were reported. Police Chief Jamal Simington praised officers for their quick response, calling it a reflection of the department’s commitment to addressing violence.
