A jury has convicted former Sangamon County sheriff’s deputy Sean Grayson of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Sonya Massey at her Springfield home in July 2024.
The verdict was delivered Wednesday afternoon at the Peoria County Courthouse following deliberations that began Tuesday morning.
Grayson was charged after investigators said he unlawfully shot Massey during a response to her residence as she held a pan of hot water. Sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.
