Normal Police arrested three people early Saturday after a traffic stop on Delaine Drive led to the recovery of a stolen firearm and other weapons.
Officers say they pulled over a white sedan around 2:31 a.m. after multiple traffic violations. The driver, identified as 30-year-old Mayshawn Tate, showed signs of impairment and became argumentative before resisting officers. As police attempted to detain him, the front-seat passenger—32-year-old Maylon Tate—ran from the vehicle. He was caught a block away, where officers recovered two loaded 9mm handguns, one confirmed stolen. Police say he has prior felony convictions and no valid FOID card.
The rear passenger, 25-year-old Latalya N. Zolicoffer, was also arrested after officers found a stun gun in her purse, which also requires a FOID card. Additional charges related to alcohol and cannabis transport were filed.
Normal Police say the case remains under active investigation as they review additional evidence from the stop.
