Downtown Bloomington is updating its long-running First Friday program next year following feedback from local businesses and community members. City officials say the goal is to boost participation, support merchants and create stronger, more engaging experiences for visitors.
Several major First Friday events will remain and expand in 2026, including Tour De Chocolat in February, Get Your Kicks on Route 66 in July and Once Upon a Holiday in December. Outside of those anchor events, monthly First Fridays will shift to a business-led format, allowing shops and restaurants to decide whether to stay open late, host pop-ups or offer special promotions. The City will promote these activities to help guide visitors.
To keep momentum going throughout the year, Downtown Bloomington will also launch new themed Saturday events in September, October and November, featuring honey-themed activities, Halloween programming and Shop Small promotions.
Officials say the refreshed approach focuses on fewer but more intentional large events while giving businesses greater flexibility, ensuring there are always opportunities to shop, dine and explore downtown in 2026.
