The City of Bloomington is moving forward with upgrades at 87 intersections to help emergency vehicles move through traffic more quickly.
The system uses GPS-based technology to change signals as emergency vehicles approach, improving on the city’s current light-based emitters. Equipment will also be installed on fire department vehicles to fully integrate the system.
Funded by grants, the project will be completed in phases with work beginning this year. City officials say the upgrades aim to reduce delays and improve response times in high-traffic areas.
