Miller Park Zoo will host a series of activities to celebrate Endangered Species Day on Saturday, May 16, with events scheduled from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Visitors can take part in an Endangered Species Day scavenger hunt designed to highlight the zoo’s efforts to protect endangered and vulnerable animals. Participants who complete the hunt will receive a small prize. Keeper talks throughout the event will also focus on endangered species housed at the zoo.
In addition, the zoo is partnering with the Endangered Species Coalition to host a chalk art contest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The family-friendly contest is open to all ages, with materials provided at no cost. Those interested in participating are encouraged to contact Miller Park Zoo Events Coordinator Silvia Schuh for more information.
“Endangered Species Day gives us a chance to learn more about the species at risk of extinction, and to take meaningful action to protect them,” Schuh said. “One important way to make a difference is by educating ourselves about the daily challenges these animals face.”
All activities are included with regular zoo admission. Miller Park Zoo, located at 1020 S. Morris Avenue, is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except on Thanksgiving and Christmas. For more information, call 309-434-2250 or visit the zoo’s website.
