The City of Bloomington will celebrate the reopening of its downtown entertainment district with Light Up the Ring on Friday, July 10, from 6 to 10 p.m.
The event marks the official opening of the new 600 block event space and completion of the first two stages of Phase 1 of the Downtown Streetscape Project. Activities will center around the newly constructed Ring Structure outdoor amphitheater on North Main Street.
Family-friendly activities, including lawn games, face painting, balloon artists, and local vendors, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the 500 block. Food will be available for purchase from nearby restaurants, with picnic seating provided throughout the area.
Live music by Front Street Collective begins at 7 p.m. Formal remarks from city officials are scheduled for 8 p.m., followed by the inaugural lighting of the Ring Structure at approximately 8:30 p.m. The band will then resume performing as attendees enjoy the downtown nightlife and surrounding businesses.
Mayor Dan Brady said the event will showcase Bloomington’s businesses, entertainment district, and community while celebrating a new gathering space in the heart of downtown. City officials say the project is designed to create a more welcoming, walkable downtown and support future growth.
