The Normal Police Department issued 79 traffic citations and made four arrests during its Independence Day traffic enforcement campaign, which ran from June 19 through July 6.
Officers conducted 80 traffic stops during dedicated enforcement details, issuing citations for seat belt violations, speeding, distracted driving and other traffic offenses. Arrests included one for DUI, two for driving without a valid license and one for possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia.
The campaign, funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation, focused on impaired driving, seat belt use, speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors during the holiday travel period.
