The Normal Police Department is investigating a serious single-vehicle crash that injured a pedestrian and four people inside the vehicle Friday afternoon in Uptown Normal.
Police said the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Beaufort Street at about 3:15 p.m. when it left the roadway, struck a pedestrian and then crashed into the Children’s Discovery Museum. The driver, three passengers and the pedestrian were transported to local hospitals.
The driver and one passenger were taken to an out-of-area hospital. The driver remains in critical but stable condition, while the other passengers and pedestrian are reported to be stable.
The investigation is continuing with assistance from the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team. Police have issued one citation, and additional investigative steps are underway, including laboratory testing related to the driver.
