(The Center Square) – A federal grand jury has indicted a man who was in the United States unlawfully for illegally possessing eight Molotov cocktails.
Hamed Alsaidi, 31, is charged with eight counts of possessing an unregistered destructive device. Alsaidi formerly resided in Oak Forest and is now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
COUNTY SURPASSES $1 BILLION IN MEDICAL DEBT RELIEF
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and nonprofit partner Undue Medical Debt announced on Monday that more than $1 billion in medical debt has been eliminated through the county’s medical debt relief initiative.
Since its launch in 2022, the program has leveraged $9 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to abolish $1.05 billion in debt for more than 791,000 residents.
Although Cook County is facing a projected budget deficit of $550.7 million dollars for fiscal year 2027, Preckwinkle promised to continue funding the program with county taxpayer funds.
FARMER MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM REBRANDS AS FARM SOS
The Illinois Farm Family Resource Initiative has changed its name to FARM SOS. The mental health program offers free, confidential service 24 hours a day, seven days a week to Illinois farm families at 1-833-FARM-SOS, or 1-833-327-6767.
The initiative is a partnership among the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Illinois Department of Agriculture and Illinois Department of Human Services.
