(The Center Square) – Du Quoin officials are asking the public to avoid the Main Street area after a multi-alarm fire rekindled overnight.
The blaze reported early on Wednesday afternoon destroyed three businesses in the downtown area.
As of Thursday morning, no fatalities were reported. More than 30 fire departments in southern Illinois responded to the scene.
REWARD OFFERED IN CONNECTION WITH CHICAGO SHOOTING
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Explosives and Firearms, FBI and Cook County Crime Stoppers are offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for a mass shooting in Chicago’s Washington Park on Aug. 29.
The incident left one person dead and 14 others injured.
PREVIOUSLY-CONVICTED KILLER SENTENCED FOR NEW GUN CRIME
A federal judge has sentenced an East St. Louis man to 15 years in prison for possessing a firearm as a felon.
Anthony D. Bradley Jr., 37, had a prior state conviction for second-degree murder and multiple charges involving illegal firearm possession. Prosecutors said Bradley was found with a firearm during a proactive crime suppression detail.
The weapon had a machine gun conversion device and was loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition.
MAN GETS FIVE YEARS FOR BUYING GUNS LATER RECOVERED AT CRIME SCENES
A Ferguson, Missouri man has been sentenced to five years in prison for being the original purchaser of 27 guns that were later recovered at crime scenes in three states.
Lamondre Haynes, 33, bought 27 firearms that were recovered by law enforcement in Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri while in the possession of individuals being arrested for drug violations, violent assaults and gun possession crimes.
A Glock pistol Haynes bought in May 2025 was recovered in Columbia, Illinois after being used in a carjacking during which the victim was shot.
FINANCIAL STRESS INDEX TICKS DOWN
The St. Louis Fed’s Financial Stress Index fell to -0.85 in the week ending Aug. 28 from the prior week’s -0.81.
Values below zero suggest below-average stress in the markets.
