The City of Bloomington will hold a ceremony Thursday evening to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The Downtown Ring will be illuminated during the ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10 in the 600 block of North Main Street.
Mayor Dan Brady will open the ceremony with remarks, followed by comments from a member of the Bloomington Fire Department. The Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard will conduct a flag ceremony and flag folding.
The lighting will honor the nearly 3,000 people who died in the attacks and recognize the first responders and others who answered the call on Sept. 11, 2001.
Retired Bloomington firefighter Roger Troxell will perform on bagpipes during the observance. Closing remarks will conclude the ceremony.
The public is invited to attend and is encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
