(The Center Square) – The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has issued medical cannabis dispensary licenses to 37 existing dispensaries, marking the biggest expansion of the state’s medical cannabis market since 2016.
The dispensaries may now sell cannabis to registered patients at the medical tax rate while also selling to non-medical-use customers at the same location.
Senate Bill 3222, signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker on June 12, provided for the licensing expansion.
Illinois currently has 288 adult use cannabis dispensaries in Illinois, including 178 dispensaries from social equity lotteries.
WOMAN SENTENCED FOR FRAUDULENTLY WRITING OPIOID PRESCRIPTIONS
A Palos Hills woman has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for using information stolen from physicians to fraudulently write opioid prescriptions.
Prosecutors said Amani Ibrahim, 48, was responsible for the unlawful distribution of tens of thousands of dosage units in the Chicago area from 2022 to 2025.
STATE MUSEUM HOSTS MONARCH FESTIVAL
The Monarch Butterfly Festival is scheduled to be on Saturday at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.
Free games and activities are scheduled from 2-6 p.m. as the Illinois State Museum, the Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway celebrate the state insect.
