(The Center Square) – Cook County School District 130 said on Monday that its schools are open and safe, and flyers encouraging families to keep their children at home on Monday were not from the district.
The statement followed calls for intervention and investigation by the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Public Health from several state lawmakers last week.
In a joint statement, the legislators said they were horrified by conditions reported by teachers since the school board terminated SEIU 73’s union janitors before the start of the school year.
DRONES TO OPERATE OVER PRESIDENTS CUP AREA
Unmanned aerial drones will be part of public safety and security operations around the Presidents Cup in Medinah this week.
The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that drone operations will take place daily through the golf tournament’s scheduled conclusion on Sept. 28.
President Donald Trump announced last month that he planned to attend the event.
IL SUPREME COURT NAMES THREE TO PUBLIC DEFENDER COMMISSION
The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed Chicago attorney Jeffrey D. Colman, retired judge Brian T. Otwell and DuPage County Chief Public Defender Jeffrey R. York to the State Public Defender Commission.
The appointments were announced in an order filed by the state supreme court on Monday.
The Office of State Public Defender is slated to take effect on January 1, 2027. The commission overseeing the office will also include four members appointed by the governor and four by the state legislature.
OFFICE SUPPLY COMPANY TO CUT 644 JOBS IN ILLINOIS
An Illinois office supply distributor is planning to lay off 644 workers on October 3. Lincolnshire-based Essendant, formerly known as United Stationers, said plant closures would impact 534 employees in Lincolnshire and 134 workers in Carol Stream.
STUDY: IL RANKS 47TH FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL CONDITIONS
According to a new study, Illinois ranks 47th out of 50 states where entrepreneurs face the most favorable conditions in 2026.
The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia analyzed 21 factors across five categories: business costs, business environment, economy, workforce and infrastructure.
The report named New Hampshire the best state for entrepreneurs. Louisiana finished last.
Missouri ranked first in the Midwest at #6. Indiana came in at #12, Wisconsin at #21, Iowa at #40 and Kentucky at #43.
