Nine people were shot, including a 19-year-old woman who was killed, during a Halloween party in Bloomington early Sunday morning.
McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder identified the victim as Giana Dettloff of Carol Stream, a student at North Central College in Naperville. She suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Police Chief Jamal Simington described her as a young woman with a bright future who was visiting a friend.
The eight other victims, ranging in age from 16 to 22, included students from Illinois Wesleyan University, Illinois State University and Quincy University, along with two high school students and a 22-year-old Bloomington man.
Several victims were initially listed in critical condition but have since been upgraded to stable. Two others were treated and released.
Police say between 150 and 200 people were attending the party in the 100 block of East Division Street when officers received reports of gunfire around 1:20 Sunday morning. An officer nearby heard approximately 10 shots and arrived within a minute.
Investigators say the suspects are generally described as Black men. No arrests have been made.
Police are asking anyone who attended the party or was in the surrounding area to share security camera footage, cell phone videos, dash camera recordings or social media information that could help identify those responsible.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Pedro Diaz at 309-434-2532 or email Pdiaz@cityblm.org.
