(The Center Square) – Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton is the projected winner of the U.S. Senate race in Illinois.
According to multiple media reports, Stratton defeated Republican challenger Don Tracy and independent Whitfield Harrington in Tuesday’s election to replace Dick Durbin, who announced in April 2025 he would retire at the end of his current term next January.
During the campaign, Stratton promised to counter President Donald Trump’s policies if elected, saying voters from all political sides are worried about corruption in the nation’s top office.
“I’m hearing from not just Democrats, but independents and Republicans that they are very concerned with what’s happening,” Stratton told Greg Bishop on The States.
Tracy criticized Stratton and Gov. J.B. Pritzker for increasing taxes and fees every year for the past seven years, while also increasing the annual state budget by more than 50%.
Durbin has been in the Senate since 1997.
Stratton is set to take office in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 3.
