A state Senate bill is aimed at doubling the gas tax to pay for road and bridge repairs.
The bill was introduced last week and the 19-cent-per-gallon increase could create almost two billion dollars in additional revenue annually.
The bill also proposes increases in vehicle registration fees by $50 and doubling driver’s license fees to $60 from $30.
Not even eco-efficient drivers are off the hook this time. Registration renewal for electric vehicles would spike to $148 from $18 a year under SB 103.
Lastly, there is a $60 increase on vehicle titles and a $100 “weight tax” hike across all truck classes.
