The Illinois State Board of Education is asking the state for more money to combat the teacher shortage crisis. Illinois has had a long lasting teacher shortage. The Illinois Education Association says higher pay would help recruit new teachers. Lawmakers are also trying to do away with the basic skills test requirement for teacher licensure.
