Illinois State lawmakers passed legislation this week allowing people to identify themselves as neither male nor female on their driver’s licenses.
The bill, sponsored by state Rep. Anne Stava-Murray (D-Naperville), allows people to identify as “non-binary” on their driver’s license, in addition to male or female.
The bill would also require all local governments to offer a “non-binary” option on forms and documents.
The bill now heads to the Governor’s desk.
