The Bloomington Public Works Department announced they will be improving their solid waste trucks by turning them into “Smart Trucks.” WMBD TV first reported that over the next 30 days they will be installing on-board computers, cameras and sensors on its trucks. Director of Public Works, Jim Karch says by using a tablet similar to an iPad in the truck, drivers are given turn by turn ability, allowing them to also use photos and video out in the field so that they can provide good customer service. The idea is to also go “paperless” to improve efficiency.
