NBA player Keita Bates-Diop returned to Normal this weekend to help spread awareness about the need for AED’s in the twin cities. Bates-Diop says the defibrillators are key in saving lives which is why he teamed up with the Illinois Heart and Lung Foundation for his first ever 2-day open basketball camp for area elementary school students. The fundraiser has a special meaning for Bates-Diop whose brother Kai was once saved by an AED after collapsing during basketball practice at Normal’s University High School. Kai suffers from a heart condition that was unknown to him at the time.
