According to their press release, Hy-Vee is investigating activity in regards to its payment processing systems.
Hy-Vee says the company detected unauthorized activity on some of its payment processing systems and are focusing the investigation on its fuel pumps, drive-thru coffee shops and restaurants.
Transactions at front-end checkout lanes, pharmacies, customer service counters, wine and spirits locations, floral departments, clinics and all other food service areas, and transactions made on Aisles Online are not involved in the investigation due to an encryption technology that protects card data by making it unreadable.
An early report by the grocery-store chain said the investigation is in its early stages and no other information is available at this time.
“After recently detecting unauthorized activity on some of our payment processing systems, we immediately began an investigation with the help of leading cybersecurity firms. We also notified federal law enforcement and the payment card networks,” the release read.
