Central Catholic High School, Cornerstone Christian Academy and University High School to Receive Devices
As part of an initiative started in 2018 to place Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in 10 area high schools, the Illinois Heart and Lung Foundation (IHLF) is presenting the last three local high schools with their devices next week. Central Catholic High School, Cornerstone Christian Academy, and University High School will each receive and AED device, wall case, and portable carrying case next week.
Explains Lisa Slater, executive director of the Illinois Heart and Lung Foundation, “October is Sudden Cardiac Awareness Month and a perfect time to get students, teachers, and staff thinking about their emergency response plans and get these remaining AED devices to the high schools. Schools not only have students, teachers, and staff to protect, but also the many visitors who come to watch sporting events and a wide variety of other school activities.
“Sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone and is a life-threatening emergency that occurs when the heart sudden stops beating. The faster bystanders can begin CPR along with using an AED, the greater the victim’s chances of survival.”
