
According to the Illinois Department of Revenue, residents are paying more in gas taxes at the pump this year but buying millions of gallons less than last year.
Drivers paid $99.8 million more in gas taxes in August 2019 than August 2018.
While Illinois drivers paid more in taxes, they bought less in fuel in 2019 compared to 2018-about 19.4 million gallons of fuel less.
The gas tax money goes into ‘Rebuild Illinois’ which is Governor J.B. Pritzker’s $45 billion dollar Capital Plan-which largely aims to fix the state’s crumbling roads and bridges.
