
The Normal Police Department and McLean County Coroner’s office continue to investigate the fatal pedestrian versus vehicle crash from last night. The preliminary investigation indicates that a second vehicle may have been involved in this incident.
McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder pronounced deceased at 8:33 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2019 was. He is identified as Vincent V. Shorten, age 25, of Normal, IL. Preliminary autopsy findings indicate that Mr. Shorten died from multiple blunt injuries due to a pedestrian struck by an automobile. Toxicology results are pending.
Evidence from the scene, along with witness information, indicates that the pedestrian was crossing Veterans Parkway, traveling east just north of Fort Jesse Road. Shorten was stuck initially by a grey minivan traveling North on Veterans Parkway in the farthest eastern lane. Shortly after being struck by the minivan the pedestrian, while lying in the roadway, may have been struck by another vehicle, also traveling northbound in either the center or western most lane.
Information obtained to this point leads investigators to believe a dark colored full-size pickup truck of unknown make and model, is a vehicle of interest that may have information critical to the investigation.
Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle of interest, along with the driver and any occupants.
