Cynthia Baker is on trial and she is charged with murder, aggravated battery and child endangerment in connection with the death of Rica Rountree, the daughter of Baker’s boyfriend.
According to published reports, most of the evidence in the Cynthia Baker murder case was provided by the defendant herself, including the cell-phone videos she made of her abusing her live-in boyfriend’s 8-year-old daughter who later died, a prosecutor alleged Wednesday during the opening day of her trial in McLean County Circuit Court.
Baker is accused of kicking the girl in the stomach, causing “peritonitis due to intestinal perforation from blunt force trauma,” according to the charges.
