
A string of new laws will go into effect at the start of the new year in Illinois.
For starters, the state’s minimum wage will increase by $1 an hour to $9.25 per hour on January 1st. This is the first increase since 2010.
A 75-cent increase is scheduled for July 1, 2020. After that, the minimum wage will increase by $1 an hour each year until it hits $15 an hour in 2025.
Also in 2020, license plate fees will go up $50 to $151 as well as the fees for electric cars, which will go up to $248 a year.
Scott’s Law fines will go up to $250 and if you fail to reduce your speed in a construction zone, the fine will go up to a maximum of $25,000.
The fine for passing a school bus that is stopped is doubling as well.
Other new laws include requiring restaurants and businesses to have changing tables in men’s and women’s restrooms, requiring all cats to be vaccinated against rabies and requiring public and private employers to give employees training to combat workplace sexual harassment.
