Nikita Richards is running for chair of the McLean County Democratic Party.
Richards hopes to take the seat Erik Rankin held. Rankin is not seeking an additional term as party chair as he runs for Circuit Clerk.
“As a social equity and election rights advocate, I know firsthand both the challenges and reward of avidly participating in democracy,” said Richards in a news release. “I’m seeking the chairwomanship because community members who are willing to put their names on the ballot and do the hard work deserve a party structure that will help them win elections.”
Richards is a United States Navy veteran and the Employment Coordinator for the City of Bloomington. She also served on Gov. JB Pritzker’s transition team.
She lost to incumbent Kathy Michael in the recent race for McLean County Clerk.
