While the rain is expected to be widespread across central Illinois into this weekend, there will be a transition area where freezing rain and sleet is likely to begin Friday evening, and continue into the first part of Saturday. A more widespread switch from rain to snow is expected later Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. It presently appears the Illinois River valley will see the greatest impacts in our area, in terms of ice and snow. However, this is one of those situations where a very slight change in temperature will make a huge impact in where exactly this ice/sleet band sets up. If you have travel plans Friday night and Saturday, listen for later updates on this situation.
