Taxpayers in Illinois are now paying for sex change operations.
The state’s Department of Healthcare and Family Services says Medicaid started covering gender reassignment surgeries in late December. The procedures are supposed to be only for people over 21, but the state says younger people can apply to have their surgery covered as well.
There is no price tag for what the coverage will cost, though Governor JB Pritzker said it would be cost effective.
