Facebook users in Illinois may get $550 million thanks to a new settlement, according to the Chicago Tribune.
This comes after a group of Facebook users in Illinois filed a class-action lawsuit against the social media website.
The lawsuit is over facial recognition software that scans user photos and suggests tagging friends.
The lawsuit claims Facebook collects and stores users’ biometric data without prior notice or consent.
The Chicago Tribune says no details have been released as to who may be eligible for a piece of the $550 settlement.
The settlement must still be approved by a judge in San Francisco.
Class members will get a direct notice with more information on the settlement details in the coming weeks, according to attorney Jay Edelson.
The class-action lawsuit would apply to people who lived in Illinois and used Facebook from mid-2011 to mid-2015, according to TechCrunch.
While a final amount of what users would receive will depend on the number of people who file claims, TechCrunch says it could be as much as $200 each.
