An Illinois lawmaker is looking to change the way gun owners are insured.
Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz, D-Glenview, proposed a bill that would amend the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act and the Illinois Insurance Code.
This bill states those applying for or renewing a FOID card would be required to provide proof of liability insurance coverage of at least $1 million for accidental injuries caused by a firearm.
In addition, the bill would allow Illinois State Police to not only require annual proof of this coverage but to also suspend a person’s FOID card if they are not able to prove their coverage.
The bill would amend the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act.
