Money for Bloomington’s streets will get a 40 percent increase in funding in the proposed $230.3 million budget for fiscal 2021, which starts May 1.
However, the hot topic at the City Council’s meeting Monday was a request for $1.3 million to repair the Market Street parking garage, which was built in 1974. Not long ago, some aldermen wanted to tear it down to make for a library and bus station.
The proposed budget is a 1.2 percent, or $2.8 million, increase from the current spending plan of $227.5 million.
The growth last year in tax revenues was 1.59 percent — from $93.4 million to $94.9 million.
