
A Maroa woman was charged with aggravated domestic battery after allegedly physically abusing her grandson.
The victim is a seven-year-old boy with autism. According to the victim’s mother, he has the mindset of a four-year-old.
According to the Maroa Police Department, the suspect was watching her grandson on Wednesday, Feb. 25, when he said an expletive.
According to witness statements, the suspect responded by smacking the victim’s mouth approximately 12 times.
In addition, the suspect allegedly spanked the child “with enough force to buckle the child’s legs.”
The suspect also reportedly lifted the victim up by the back of his sweatshirt, causing choking of the child.
Police said the victim had an injured upper lip, as well as abrasions around his neck and jaw area.
According to officers, the suspect admitted to hitting the child in his mouth, spanking him, and grabbing him by his sweatshirt.
