Are there COVID-19 tests available in McLean County? If so, how many?- Yes, at this time the specimen collection is done in McLean County by healthcare providers and testing is done at the State Public Health Labs for anyone that meets CDC criteria (travel from the level 3 countries and displaying symptoms). Specimen collection by the provider is only done at this time after the provider has been authorized by local public health.
How many individuals have been tested and are we actively monitoring anyone who has been tested?- There have been less than 5 individuals tested for COVID-19 in McLean County as of 3/12/20. Yes, we are actively monitoring any individuals we are aware of that are at high risk for exposure to COVID-19. We are encouraging anyone that has traveled recently to the level 3 countries to reach out to their local health department for more information on self-quarantining, symptoms, and what to do if they develop symptoms.
Is there a plan to test more widely in McLean County?- Yes, the plan is for commercial labs to have the capacity to test specimens for COVID-19, but until that happens the procedure for testing is still as mentioned above.
“We understand that people may be concerned and want to be tested,” said Cathy Coverston Anderson, Assistant Administrator at the McLean County Health Department. “However, testing continues to be prioritized at this time due to limited resources.”
