Police are warning people about recent scams related to COVID-19.
Some of the scams involve:
- People selling fake cures and treatments for COVID-19
- People pretending to sell supplies that are in high demand
- People who tell others they are from a hospital and recently treated their loved one for COVID-19, then demanding payment
- People who are soliciting donations for charities, then not donating the items to said charities
- People pretending to be from the World Health Organization or the CDC, tricking others into downloading malware on their computer or providing personal information
Authorities said people can avoid these scams by reading reviews of all companies selling high demand supplies, verifying that a national or global source’s website is correct before accepting their information, avoid downloading anything or clicking links from unknown sources, and ignore offers of cures and treatments for COVID-19.
