Twenty-seven percent of Illinoisans did not or could not pay their rent during the month of April, according to Illinois House lawmakers last week.
Gov. Pritzker said in a press conference on Tuesday, May 26, that the eviction freeze will extend past this Friday and into Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois plan.
Under Illinois state law, rent must still be paid by tenants and all missed payments will still be owed to the landlord.
