Governor JB Pritzker is warning school districts around the state that they could be held liable in court if they fail to follow safety guidelines, including mask requirements and social distancing, as students return to school.
Pritzker says while the resumption of classes could be a mix of in-person instruction and remote learning, he says anytime students are in school buildings, it’s essential for districts to enforce mask-wearing and ensure proper social distance. Pritzker is also warning that the state will impose new restrictions if a region’s positivity or hospitalization numbers worsen. He says the state will move quickly in order to stop a spike in cases before it’s too late.
The state is now divided into 11 regions to track those metrics.
