
Residents across central Illinois are assessing the damage created by a powerful line of storms known as a Derecho [[ deh-REY-cho ]].
The long-lived wind storm accompanied by a squall line blew threw Central Illinois yesterday afternoon, with winds ranging from 59 miles per hour at Peoria International Airport to 91 miles per hour at Cedar Point in LaSalle County.
Ameren Illinois is working to restore power after a line of severe storms left thousands in the central part of the state without service. The electric company said over 55-thousand people were without power yesterday evening.
There were several reports of trees and limbs down and some power lines down throughout McLean County.
