SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) ruled in favor of Gov. JB Pritzker’s request for an emergency mask mandate.
WRSP-TV reports this comes after JCAR’s motion to suspend them failed in a 6-5 vote.
Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health announced on Friday the emergency rules and consequences for businesses found breaking mask and social distancing guidelines.
These rules are now in effect.
For businesses who are not following the guidelines, the first step is the educating them on compliance. Businesses will be warned through a written notice and encouraged to comply with the guidance.
The second step is issuing an order to have some or all of the business’ patrons leave the premises to comply with public health guidance.
If a business still refuses to comply, they may receive a Class A misdemeanor and a fine ranging from $75 to $2,500.
Penalties will not exceed a misdemeanor and a $75 to $2,500 fine.
Pritzker said individuals will not face penalties for not complying; however, they are obligated to follow this guidance under the law.
Some objections apply.
