According to the New York Post, a church in suburban Chicago said it is “fasting from whiteness” during Lent.
The house of worship also erected a “Fasting from Whiteness” sign on its front lawn, according to Turning Point USA, which reported that the church is using reflections and thoughts called “devotionals” for the “fast.”
Stephan Davis said it is absolutely ridiculous and that this church is basically saying that they’re going to fast from whiteness.
“We’re going to fast from using white voices, white songs and we’re going to promote diversity and marginalized voices and things of this nature,” said Stephan Davis from Turning Point USA with Cat Petersen on the Morning Buzz. “Which directly flies in the face of content of character. It’s unbelievable people are using the pulpit to sow seeds of racial division.”
First United Church’s members were encouraged to view the whiteness-free services on its YouTube channel, Turning Point USA reported.
“As they hide behind the Bible to promote these horrible doctrines and falsehoods is unbelievable, it really is,” said Davis.
Davis said it is so obvious that wokeness has invaded the church at this point in time.
“If anything they should fast from their own wokeness instead of quote unquote whiteness. This is CRT. This is CRT in a nutshell, right? One of the pillars of CRT it adheres to the concept that white people are incapable of righteous acts,” said Davis, a Black man. “Unless they converge with the interests and ideas that CRT proposes.”
Davis said that CRT teaches you that you can atone for your racism by lifting up marginalized voices.
“That sounds like to me they are adhering to a different religion called CRT as opposed to actual Christanity. I’m not surprised when it comes to the wokeness that pervades the western church,” said Davis.
At TPUSA they typically go through a lot of different articles and see what’s going on in the news of the day and Davis came across this and thought it was Babylon Bee parody or parody article.
“This can’t be. This has to be satire. This cannot be real,” said Davis. “I investigated further and I saw that this is absolutely real. This is what’s going on. This is indicative of the direction that the church is going.”
In a video posted by the church, the Rev. Lydia Mulkey, identified as the associate pastor of education, explained the fast, the Washington Times reported.
“When it comes to this sort of situation where you have to fast from whiteness quote unquote to bring about unity. I’m sorry if you have to do away with the racial contributions of whites to bring about unity, then that’s the very antithesis of unity. If racial unity can only be achieved by tearing down and disassociating yourself from certain races and their contributions to society, then you are doing unity wrong. Like I said and like we talked about this is CRT,” said Davis.
Davis said racism is not a white problem.
“It’s a cancer in the Christian church and is metastasizing and it’s destroying the Christian faith as we know it and our culture and our country as a whole. I’m not the only person who has spoken up about this situation. Whenever you see a situation like this pop up it is incumbent of us to talk about it, break the news. Get it to the American people so the American people can see what type of foolishness and filth that’s pervading society,” said Davis. “This is a typical thing within the woke white left. The progressive left. You see this constantly popping up time and time again. You flip this whole situation, you never see a black church saying they are going to denounce blackness, we’re gonna give up blackness for Lent. We’re gonna suppress our black voices and our songs and things of this nature.”
Davis said the problem lies with the white guilt of these white liberals, who sit there and say this is the best way to uplift ourselves.
“Again to be a CRT apologist and to be a type of apologist for CRT you have to atone for your racism. They adhere to the whole ideology that white people are inherently racist. They want to adhere to the ideology of CRT to say ‘I’m not racist, the racist are those who won’t denounce their whiteness. I’m uplifting marginalized voices, I’m adhering to the ideologies of CRT’. It’s absolutely disgusting,” said Davis. “No one is being marginalized in 2022. Other than the white people who marginalize themselves.”
According to the Washington Times, the “whiteness” fast was announced March 6 at a service marking the start of Lent, however, it only gained wide notice April 5 when The Post-Millennial, a website, published a brief report.
“They’re trying to break this down between oppressors and oppressed instead of brothers and sisters in Christ. That’s what we are. Were brothers and sisters in Christ, were not oppressed and oppressors and this type of victim narrative that accustomed to most of the American people,” said Davis. “It’s absolutely disgusting that this is what has pervaded the church. This is the church we’re supposed to be standing up against this filth. This has pervaded the church and we have to stand up.”
