Darin LaHood signed a letter and has expressed disapproval of the Disinformation Governance Board, forgiving everyone’s student loan debt and LaHood has shared Ukrainians continue to receive aid. The US has provided the most aid to Ukraine since the conflict began.
Disinformation Board
The recently revealed federal Disinformation Governance Board through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security could be an issue in upcoming Illinois congressional elections, but one Congressman said it’s not at all surprising this comes amidst Elon Musk’s $44 billion buy of Twitter.
“I think the Biden administration disinformation board or this proposal it’s really Orwellian and it’s unconstitutional, that’s the bottom line. To think that the department of homeland security wants to do this – I mean – they have no business policing individual speech. They’re the last ones that should be deciding what is free-speech and what is not and I also think it’s no surprise that this popped up last week when Elon musk announced that he’s going to buy Twitter right,” said Congressman Darin LaHood.
But could this Disinformation Governance board, that has been in the working for over two months prior to Musk’s buy, be a way to control the messaging around the conflict in Ukraine?
“I think we got to be very, very careful about involvement of the US [in Ukraine] but what we are doing now is we continue to help with humanitarian aid with the Ukrainian people. We’re ratcheting down economic sanctions on Russia we’re sharing intelligence with Zelenskyy and our Ukrainian army allies there and we have to continue to watch and monitor Putin. That’s what’s happening now,” said LaHood.
According to USA Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin could formally declare war on Ukraine as soon as May 9. Also Adam Kinzinger, another Illinois Congressman, introduced a joint resolution that would “authorize the use of U.S. Armed Forces to defend Ukraine” should Russia use chemical, biological, and/or nuclear weapons. Student Loan Debt
In a closed-door meeting at the White House, President Joe Biden told Congressional Democrats he’s considering student loan forgiveness on a large scale.
“’Canceling’ student debt is morally wrong,” said Congressman Rodney Davis, who’s district neighbors LaHood’s. “The debt isn’t just magically eliminated with the stroke of a pen. It means working- and middle-class taxpayers are on the hook for something that benefits overwhelmingly-wealthy, highly-educated elites. Those who never took out student loans or paid their loan off shouldn’t be footing the bill for everyone else. President Biden should stop catering to the Radical Left, and instead pursue responsible solutions that are fair to taxpayers and already in law, like my Employer Participation in Repayment Act, which allows employers to pay up to $5,250/year of their employee’s student debt, tax-free.”
Biden has “not yet” made a decision on forgiving student loan debt ahead of the midterm elections. Progressives seem to have figured out that sweeping student loan forgiveness isn’t popular with Americans who didn’t go to college or who repaid their loans. Hence they now say that canceling $50,000 per borrower will be a a thing that is helpful for the working class. LaHood said this measure by the Administration would effectively cancel every American’s student loan debt.
“People that take out student loans to go to college, I did that others do that, that’s what we had to do but to think that the Biden administration is going to relieve that student debt – and we are $30 trillion in debt – we’re adding to the debt by doing that. It simply doesn’t make any sense,” said LaHood. “We’re through the pandemic. People have a responsibility and an obligation to pay back their student loans, that’s the American way. If you decide to do that and take out a loan you have an obligation to pay it back.”
