The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has completed design for and is taking bids on a $5.8 million project to resurface 7.1 miles of IL Route 9, from IL Route 122 to Walton Drive. The project includes upgrading the traffic signal and street lighting at the intersection of IL Route 9 (Market St.) and US Route 150 (Rivian Mtwy.). While these are state highways, Bloomington has previously agreed to maintain the intersection lighting by means of a letter of understanding.
IDOT has estimated the cost of the lighting portion of the project to be $15,000 for lighting removal and replacement, and $2,250 for preliminary, design, and construction engineering, totaling $17,250.
At tonight’s Bloomington City Council meeting the Public Works Department is asking council to approve an intergovernmental agreement with IDOT for the intersection lighting construction work and funding it at $21,562.50. That amount covers 125 percent of the estimated costs. IDOT estimates that this will be enough to cover any difference between the estimated contract cost and the actual cost.
The project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2023.
