Republican incumbent Rebecca McNeil is running against challenger Libertarian Charles Sila in the race for McLean County Treasurer. McNeil has served as County Treasurer for 19 years and has 23 years of experience working in the Treasurer’s office. Sila is the owner of Sila Accounting where he has worked for 44 years.
McNeil began her employment with the Treasurer’s office in 1999 as a payroll accountant and then became Assistant County Treasurer in 2001. She was appointed to serve as McLean County Treasurer in 2003. She was elected in 2004 and then re-elected in 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018.
Sila Accounting, in Normal, IL, specializes in tax preparation, business services, and payroll. They also provide estate planning, retirement planning and consulting services.
McNeil holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in Economics from Western Illinois University. She served as President of the Illinois County Treasurer’s Association in 2017 and has also served on the Board of Director’s for the Illinois Association of County Officials.
McNeil says a vote for her is a vote for proven leadership and experience that counts. She says she will continue to: safeguard public funds through sound financial practices; build solutions through communication, collaboration, and cooperation and leverage technology to enhance public services.
McNeil claims she has built strong, professional relationships with the county administration, elected officials, directors and members of the county board.
According to McNeil, she has a desire to be a strategic partner with the county’s leaders during this time of change and uncertainty and that she has fostered intergovernmental cooperation with all county departments.
McNeil cites innovation as something that has always been big in her office and believes in being innovative and using technology to better serve taxpayers.
