You have probably seen this one on the internet. A Site called Only In Your State claims it is illegal to Make Faces at Dogs in Normal. Below a picture of a smiling Golden Retriever it asks, but how can you not smile back?
There is only one problem. It’s not illegal to make faces at or smile at a dog in Normal.
Brian Day, Corporate Attorney for the Town of Normal, made a point of clearing the air on this matter last week. saying, “For those who have searched the internet or heard that there are some crazy laws in the State of Illinois, chief among them is that it is illegal in the Town of Normal for anybody to smile at a dog, this comes up every year.”
“We are currently in another cycle where it has popped up that it is illegal to smile at a dog and we get tons of questions constantly from people asking how such a crazy law could have happened,” Day continued. “I can assure you that is not the law in the Town of Normal. It has never been the law in the Town of Normal and it turns out that some things on the internet aren’t always accurate.”
In fact, according to Day, you are free to roam about the town and smile at any animal you want.
