UPDATE: Sheriff Matt Lane tells Cities they have put out a state-wide public alert to be on the look out
This morning Normal West was placed on lockdown and that was lifted at approximately 10:30 a.m. but law enforcement has yet to catch a murder suspect.
Michael Bakana, 41, of Normal was served with a six count bill of indictment, all felonies and was suppose to show up to court today.
Bakana made bond by paying $200,000, but cut off his ankle monitor today. Normal Police Chief Stephen Petrilli said he and the Normal Police are assisting in the case and out of an abundance of caution Normal Police directed Unit 5 to lock down the high school.
Bloomington Police posted to Facebook that he is armed and dangerous.
“His whereabouts are unknown and he may have fled the Bloomington/Normal area. He speaks with a heavy foreign accent. If spotted, do not approach this individual, CALL 911 and report your sighting to your local law enforcement agency,” says the social media post.
According to Petrilli, they found the monitor but no Bakana.
Petrilli said there was no “identifiable treat to northwest Normal.”
Bakana was arrested after allegedly shooting two people outside Daddio’s in the early morning hours of Jan 30. Mariah Petracca, 22, of Bloomington was killed during the gunfire and another victim was injured.
