In the heart of Illinois, a vibrant and inclusive community thrives, providing a joyful safe haven of sports and recreation activities for individuals unable to participate in traditional programs. Special Opportunities Available in Recreation, affectionately known as SOAR is not just a program—it’s a family.
Program Manager, Holly Polley, couldn’t agree more: “SOAR is a welcoming community where you truly feel at home; it brings out the best in everyone around them. ”
Supported jointly by the City of Bloomington and the Town of Normal through their Parks & Recreation
Departments, SOAR opens its doors to individuals from youth to older adults who may face challenges in participating in typical recreation activities.
Amidst the excitement and inclusivity that defines SOAR, there’s an even more special reason to celebrate this year—the program is turning 50! On Sunday, September 17, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM, SOAR invites everyone to join in the festivity at Tipton Park North Shelter and the West Ballfield for a fantastic 50th-anniversary celebration.
Mark your calendars for this open house family event that promises a delightful afternoon filled with music, yard games, popcorn, and endless fun. No registration is required, making it an accessible and enjoyable event for all!
