Bloomington Police Department Fourth of July enforcement statistics:
• 2 impaired driving arrests (alcohol and drug related)
• 16 speeding citations
• 17 other traffic citations
During one of the traffic stops, the driver fled on foot while carrying a handgun. The loaded firearm was recovered during the incident. The driver, who was on parole at the time, had his parole revoked and was later arrested on multiple firearm-related offenses.
Chief Jamal Simington stated, “Thanks to the dedication of our officers and the partnership with IDOT, we were not only able to take intoxicated drivers off the roadway but also recovered a handgun from an individual legally prohibited from possessing one.”
