Printing company layoffs
One-hundred and eighty workers at a printing company in Bolingbrook will be losing their jobs on Sept. 5.
The Peoria Journal Star reports that LSC Communications Transport, doing business as Enru Logistics, reported the layoffs July 9 in accordance with the Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.
Champaign spending on violence interrupters
The Champaign city council has agreed to hire a Chicago-based violence intervention group.
The News-Gazette reports that the one-year contract with Acclivus, Inc. is not to exceed $450,000.
The move comes in the wake of 14 shootings in Champaign last month.
Johnson’s curfew veto holds
Chicago aldermen have failed to override Mayor Brandon Johnson’s veto of a curfew ordinance.
The measure would have allowed the city’s police superintendent to order temporary curfews in an effort to prevent violent teen gatherings.
The city council approved the curfew last month but fell six votes short of an override on Wednesday.
