Parolee sentenced to 120 years in child’s murder
A man who fatally stabbed an 11-year-old boy who tried to protect his mother from a domestic attack has been sentenced to life plus 120 years in prison.
CWB Chicago reports that Crosetti Brand, 39, was on parole for a previous domestic attack when he killed Jayden Perkins on March 13, 2024.
Jayden’s mother has filed a lawsuit against the Illinois Department of Corrections and the state’s Prisoner Review Board, accusing them of negligence in Brand’s release.
Chicago Fed’s financial condition unchanged
The Chicago Fed’s National Financial Conditions Index (NFCI) was unchanged at –0.53 in the week ending Aug. 1, suggesting steady financial conditions.
Positive values of the NFCI have been historically associated with tighter-than-average financial conditions, while negative values have been associated with looser-than-average financial conditions.
Hazardous waste collections announced
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has announced eight Household Hazardous Waste one-day collection events for upcoming Saturdays.
Residents are encouraged to bring chemical cleaners, oil-based paints, antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, kerosene, pesticides, fluorescent lamps and other products.
The collection schedule is available on the Illinois EPA website. Appointments are required.
